BBQ Roasted Peaches for Dessert

A Peachy Treat. A Peachy Weekend.

Today’s post is a nod to our friends, the Mitchell’s, their wonderful hospitality, and their BBQ roasted peach dessert.

How lucky are we that our friends have invited us to their piece of paradise – their cottage on the lake – for the past few years? It’s a rhetorical question–the answer is… “sooo lucky”! We’ve very much enjoyed fun and relaxing long weekends there with our friends. The kids have a blast and it makes Nelson and I happy to see them spending time outdoors and on the water (it takes a lot to tear our little guy away from electronics). These weekends are honestly such a treat, and they’re the perfect way to close off summer before the start of the new school year.

Creating memories and traditions.

Some parts of our cottage weekend have already become a tradition–and surprise, surprise, they’re related to food. For instance, Nelson makes his traditional pancakes for one of our breakfasts, and our friends’ youngest son gets up early and creates delicious fruit and cream filled crepes for another breakfast. He’s a natural in the kitchen. Can I just say how much I appreciate being surrounded by people who enjoy cooking…and who do it well (cuz that’s kind of important too).

For the second year in a row now (making it a tradition in my books), our friends have treated us to BBQ roasted peaches over ice cream for one of our desserts. They even pick up fresh peaches at a farm-stand on their way up to the cottage, so it makes the whole experience even more wholesome and delicious. There’s just something extra nice about buying produce right from the farmers themselves.

Recipes are for sharing.

This year, I suggested to Nelson that we should learn this recipe so we could make it again at home. Our friends aren’t sure of the recipe’s origins, but it was shared with them and they were happy to share it with us…and now we’re sharing it here with you. Recipe-sharing is a delicious thing. Don’t you think?

These BBQ roasted peaches are simple to make and they’re yummy on their own, or served over a simple sponge cake or icecream. How versatile! At the cottage, on a glorious August afternoon, icecream was the perfect pairing for us.

It’s ok if you missed picking season.

Even if, like us, you missed the height of the picking season, you can still find nice peaches at farmer’s markets or your local grocer. If you’re already missing summer, then may I suggest you try this peach dessert. Keep that sweet summer feeling going a little longer… and eat well, friends.

The recipe is so simple to prepare and it's so delicious. This peach recipe is versatile, eat it on cake, ice cream or with dollop of whipped cream.

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American, Canadian, North American
Servings: 6 single servings (or more if serving the peaches as a side)
Author: Our friends, the Mitchells
Ingredients
  • 10 to 12 fresh peaches
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold
Instructions
  1. Preheat the BBQ to between 350 ºF and 375 ºF

  2. Grease a 9" by 13" aluminum foil baking pan with 1 tbsp of butter.

  3. Peel and chop the peaches, and place the pieces in the baking pan.

  4. Add the brown sugar, maple syrup and lemon juice to the pan.

  5. Toss or mix the ingredients to coat the peaches.

  6. Cut the remaining butter into slivers and distribute over the peaches.

  7. Cover the baking pan with a sheet of aluminum foil and place it in the BBQ.

  8. Close the BBQ lid and let cook for about 30 minutes.

  9. Remove the pan from the BBQ, uncover and serve. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes
  • Serve the peaches and sauce hot or let cool a little. Note, once these become cold, the butter will harden and they won't look as nice.
  • You can also roast these in the oven, but we prefer to do them in the BBQ like our friends.
  • Feel free to half or double the recipe depending on the amount of people you'll be serving.
